Three pieces from my Domesticated series are featured in the May issue of the German photography magazine, Photonews. (I am huge in Hamburg!)

The May issue of the magazine focuses on photographers whose work is animal themed. Included are Walter Schels' Animal Portraits, Alessandra Sanguinetti's On The Sixth Day, and Albin Biblom's amazing series, Mechkar, which documents the last of Bulgaria’s dancing bears and their owners.

Stranded Series Featured on Solo Show

Humble Arts Foundation is a not-for-profit that has been providing invaluable grant, publication, and exhibition opportunities to emerging photographers for a couple of years now. I am a veteran of their Group Show series and now I can add Solo Show to my resume. For the next month you can see photos from my Stranded series on the Humble site. In addition to the Stranded photos, you can read an interview with moi conducted by the lovely Julie Fishkin. Big thanks to Amani Olu and Jon Feinstein for selecting my work for this wonderful honor.

If you want to get a taste of the good work Humble Arts Foundation is doing and support their mission, I suggest you pick up a copy of their first publication, Story. The book features documentary photographs by thirteen new and emerging photographers as well as essays by the aforementioned Mr. Feinstein.

Sophia Peer Reviewed in the New York Times

You know you are a hotshot artist when you are included in the paper of record. Fellow SVA MFA alum, Sophia Peer, got a very favorable write-up of her video piece, Everyday, in the New York Times review of the Queens International 2006. Congratulations, Sophia!

Where this exhibition can feel more provincial than shows like P.S. 1’s “Greater New York” or the Whitney Biennial is in its attempt to balance the interests of the art crowd while staying “close to the heart of many local residents,” according to its brochure. Sometimes these concerns dovetail nicely, as in Sophia Peer’s quick-cut video “Everyday.” She captures her aging parents moving around their cramped home in Queens like latter-day, empty-nest Bunkers burrowed in a row house amid a social landscape turned virtually unrecognizable.

Also in the exhibition and worth checking out is Rebecca Roberton's Queens Vernacular series. Rebecca is another kickass MFA grad from the School of Visual Arts.

Trasheaters in August Issue of Popular Photographer
